Former Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze regretted having transferred the power to Mikheil Saakashvili, ArmenPress informs citing Itarr Tass he stated this in an interview published on July 2 in the Asaval Dasavali newspaper.
Shevardnadze said “his biggest sin before the people and the country is the fact he handed over power to Saakashvili.”
“At that time [in 2003] I had no other choice but to resign ahead of term, but I am ready to repent and apologize a thousand times before the Georgian people for passing presidential powers to Mikhail Saakashvili. I admit my mistake and apologize before the people,” he has stressed.
Shevardnadze once again criticized Saakashvili’s policy and activity and said “he is unable to solve Georgia’s main problems”.
