Today, Egypt’s newly elected president Mohammed Mursi symbolically took an oath before tens of thousands of supporters at Cairo’s Tahrir Square. He swore to faithfully defend the republican system, respect the constitution and the rule of law, protect stability and security.
After the swearing in ceremony Mursi announced: “I fear nobody but God”. He also underscored he will protect people’s authority, promised “no one can steal the authority from me”.
To note, Egypt’s Supreme Military Council is meant first of all, which is in control of the country after Mubarak’s fall. Delivering a speech in front of the supporters, Mursi also pledged to free Sheikh Omar Abdul Rahman, who had organized terrorist acts in New York’s World trade centre in 1993.
