Today, Chairman of the Union of Writers Levon Ananyan handed the keys to Tumanyan’s house to Head of Virahayots Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Bishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan. Thus, the fate of the great Armenian writer’s house was finally determined.
According to Levon Ananyan, everything must be done so that this Armenian center not only contributes to the propaganda of the great writer’s works, but also becomes one of the main centres of the Georgian Armenian educational and cultural life.
The issue of Tumanyan’s house in Georgia was under discussion still months ago. The Union of Writers of Armenia assumed the responsibility to solve this issue.
To recall, Gyumri’s Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan bought the part of Tumanyan’s house, which belonged to owner Arich Lezhava for 140,000 USD and presented it to the Armenian community in Tbilisi.
The opening of the house will take place in autumn, when the reconstruction work is finished.
“This day can be considered a historical moment as we were not only able to return to our people one of the remains of the great writer, but also we’ll have an Armenian cultural centre,” Levon Ananyan said.
