Yesterday, the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved the nomination of Richard Morningstar for US Ambassador to Azerbaijan, reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).
This time Morningstar was asked questions on the issues pertinent to the situation in the region, as well as on what Ambassador Morningstar would prioritize to do during his tenure in Azerbaijan. In the result, pro-Armenian Senators Barbara Boxer and Robert Menendez approved Morninsgtar’s nomination.
Answering to the questions of these two Senators, Morningstar confirmed the call of US Secretary of State for complying with the 1994 ceasefire agreement and taking necessary measures for ensuring peace.
If he is approved, Morningstar promised to visit Djulfa, where thousands of Armenian cross-stones where destroyed, as well as promised to take all the efforts with OSCE MG co-Chair Robert Bradtke for the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
