During the past years many of our colleagues have waited before RPA’s headquarters at least three times for the end of the session of the party’s executive body to hear an announcement about an important turn in Hovik Abrahamyan’s biography.
On September 6, 2008, Hovik Abrahamyan was nominated by the party to the post of NA speaker. On November 1, 2011, RPA decided Hovik Abrahamyan should resign from the post of NA speaker.
On May 30, 2012 RPA decided Hovik Abrahamyan must again become NA speaker. RPA press spokesperson Edward Sharmazanov informed about this already after the session of the executive body. The latter will also continue to hold the office of the NA deputy speaker. RPA member Hermine Naghdalyan who has been pretending to the post of the other NA deputy speaker will replace Sharmazanov’s colleague Samvel Balasanyan, who is a PAP member.
Sharmazanov informed that President Serzh Sargsyan has proposed all the candidatures and they received unanimous consent. The issue of the NA standing committees’ chairmen was also settled during the session. 8 of them will be from RPA and 4 will be from PAP.
Edward Sharmazanov said during the session the president thanked the present NA speaker Samvel Nikoyan for his efforts. From now on Samvel Nikoyan will continue his activity in another sphere outside the parliament.
Most probably, the predictions that Samvel Nikoyan will be included in the government will be confirmed. Former MP Hovhannes Sahakyan will be most happy with that fact. His biography as an MP will resume in a few days when the government is formed. Galust Sahakyan will continue to head the RPA faction.
The predictions over the government composition and the candidates of future PM may continue. No decisions have been taken on these issues, yet.
While the RPA members were leaving the party’s headquarters, the representatives of Orinats Yerkir Party (OYP) hurried there. An agreement of a political coalition was signed in RPA’s headquarters. The leaders of the two political parties, RPA and OYP, Serzh Sargsyan and Artur Baghdasaryan signed the agreement.
It particularly reads:
“The political coalition reaffirms the decision to participate in the coming presidential elections with a single candidate, in the person of Serzh Sargsyan, with that expressing political will and resoluteness to assume the responsibility for the country’s further stable development and progress.
The agreement is in force during the term of the Fifth Convocation National Assembly”.
