Most probably, Stepanakert’s new airport will be opened this summer, NKR Civil Aviation Department Chief of Staff Tigran Gabrielyan told Novosti Armenia.
During yesterday’s session NKR’s government approved NKR airport and flight air navigation tariffs, as well as the flight rules.
“Presently, we do document work, the airport and air navigation service are in the process of certification. We are trying to create a legal field, which will allow to carry out flights according to international standards, as well as to do everything so that the adopted legal acts and normative orders are fully in accordance with ICAO requirements and limitations and we are almost in the final phase,” Gabrielyan said.
According to him, as of today, the flight tariffs aren’t still decided upon, but they will be quite affordable.
He also said that flights will be performed every day, later, several times a day, which is connected with the passenger flow.
In the initial phase, the airport will be able to serve 100 passengers in an hour, Air Artsakh being the passenger carrier company.
As NKR PM Ara Harutyunyan had told Novosti Armenia earlier, firstly Stepanakert-Yerevan-Stepanakert flights will be carried out from the airport, but the airport is constructed with the perspective to carry out flights in other directions, too.
RA President Serzh Sargsyan stated at the end of March, 2011 he would be the first passenger of the flight served by Stepanakert’s airport. He had said that Nagorno-Karabakh’s people have the right to use air space and no one can doubt it.
