Today, 21 representatives of arts and sciences received RA 2011 Presidential Awards. Through the annual awards giving ceremony, sponsored by Poghossyan Foundation, the president appreciates the specialists who made a success or discoveries in different spheres during the year.
The award-winners are chosen by specialized commissions. This year, there were no award-winning candidates in the spheres of medicine and singing.
Turkish writer, publicist Ragip Zarakolu is among the 2012 award-winners for brining the historical truth of the Armenian Genocide to the Turkish public, for his active translation and publishing activity on the topic, for the unceasing and principle fight for respecting the right of freedom of speech and the human rights.
“Unfortunately, the negative atmosphere in my country has become even more obvious in the past decade. It has become a part of the national security and politics. The elder generations know what has happened in reality, while the younger generations are brought up to believe it is a lie. This is a worse phenomenon,” Zarakolu said.
