In the host city of Eurovision -2012, in Baku, where thousands of people have arrived from different countries, the opposition circles making use of the opportunity continue protests, while the police, who are a little constrained, continue arrests.
Again a clash between the police and the protestors took place yesterday. The police didn’t allow the activists of Public Chamber opposition movement to hold an assembly before the Public TV building. According to the opposition, the TV channel doesn’t carry out the functions of the public broadcaster and doesn’t ensure pluralism on TV. The leader of Musavat Party Isa Gambar has stated that the Public TV, being one of the organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest, violates the principles of the European Broadcasting Union in the issue of freedom of speech.
The opposition representatives, however, managed to gather in front of the TV company. The building was surrounded by the police. The more active figures of Public Chamber movement were arrested in their houses. In total, 30 people were arrested.
