Canada’s Quebec City hosted the session of the International Olympic Committee executive committee. The session was headed by IOC Chairman Jacques Rogges. The issue of the candidate cities shortlist to host 2020 Summer Olympics was discussed during the session.
Doha and Baku were excluded from the shortlist. The other three applicant cities are Madrid, Tokyo and Istanbul. The cities have 17 months to prove their advantage, as the voting on the host city will take place on September 7, 2013 in Buenos Aires.
In 1964 Tokyo hosted the summer Olympic Games. This is Madrid’s third attempt to become an Olympic capital. Istanbul is claiming the right to host the Games for the 5th time. To note, the 2016 Summer Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro.
