A meeting was held at the presidential seat yesterday late in the evening, in the result of which the issue of forming or not forming a coalition between RPA and PAP was resolved.
PAP Leader Gagik Tsarukyan and RPA Executive Body member Hovik Abrahamyan met President Serzh Sargsyan at the presidential seat.
No details of the meeting are known. The press circulated information today that during the meeting the issues of drawing up a coalition memorandum, of appointments of ministers and governors, as well as of appointing Hovik Abrahamyan the National Assembly Speaker were touched upon during the meeting. The issue of leaving certain insurgent individuals out of PAP’s list was not bypassed, either.
PAP Leader Gagik Tsarukyan circulated a statement today, which particularly reads:
“The idea of the necessity for essential changes in the country and the lives of the people was the axis of my speech and the speeches of my team members in the 6th Convention of PAP.
We acted from the same positions during the whole campaign. PAP presented a comprehensive programme to the people. I have stated in all my meetings that I don’t pursue a personal interest getting into politics. Moreover, I have stated I am ready to suffer losses but I will retain the confidence of people sacredly.
Prosperous Armenia Party received close to half-million votes as a result of the parliamentary elections. People voted for PAP trusting us and demanding real, visible changes in the people’s social-economic life.
The outcomes of the polls do not give PAP the constitutional opportunity to form a government and implement its programs.
Based on the aforesaid, I formally announce that Prosperous Armenia Party does not find it advisable to take part in the formation of a coalition government.
PAP will continue to play a significant role in our country’s political life contributing to socio-political processes through a strictly constructive and balancing work.
PAP will have a very active and working faction in the National Assembly. I promise that our MPs will constantly be beside the people and will protect the rights and interests of our citizens with all possible means.
I sincerely wish success and effective work to Armenia’s future government for the welfare of our country and people”.
