For the first time a textbook of Azerbaijani language published in Armenian. It includes the grammar, phonetic system and the vocabulary of contemporary Azerbaijani language. A lecturer of Oriental Studies faculty of Yerevan State University Lilit Movsisyan is the author of the book. Deputy dean of the faculty Ruben Melkonyan is the editor. The Azerbaijani language has been studied at the Oriental Studies faculty along with Turkic studies since 2008 but without a textbook. Specialists think that the publication has a great strategic importance in addition to the scientific value.
Ruben Melkonyan said serious steps are being made in the direction of developing Azerbaijani studies. The main directions of studies are: the history, literature of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani language. Unlike Armenia, Azerbaijan has started Armenian studies earlier and has invested large financial resources in it. But according to Armenian specialists, the studies are political rather than scientific.
“The works are mainly politicized, are under ideological influence and there is no scientific impartiality or objectivity. In Armenia, though it is a little belated, this science, which is in the process of formation, has a clear scientific standard. But the textbook we present and the people who study with it can easily use the knowledge both in the political war, in the war of propaganda and information,” Ruben Melkonyan says.
