The mandate of forming a government passes from one to another in Greece. The leader of the left-wing Siriza Party Alexis Tsipras also failed.
New Democracy Party leader Antonios Samaras first took over the mandate of forming a new government, who was unable to reach an agreement with the leaders of the other parties in forming a coalition.
Tsipras faces the same problem. After the failure of the New Democracy Party and Siriza, the right to form a government passes to the Panhellenik Socialist Movement, PASOK, which was the third according to the election results. Former Greek minister Yevangelos Venizelos heads PASOK. If PASOK also fails to settle the issue of forming a government then the Greek president will turn to all the parties which have entered the parliament urging them to form a “united government” till May 17. Otherwise, new parliamentary elections will be declared in Greece.
