A military parade dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Shushi’s liberation and the establishment of the NKR Defense Army is taking place in Stepanakert at the moment.
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, NKR President Bako Sahakyan, RA II President Robert Kocharyan, Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, guests who have arrived in Artsakh and Artsakh’s people are following the parade.
The festive events planned for today include a reception by the NKR president, opening of the exhibition devoted to the establishment of the NKR Defense Army and other events.
May 9 of 1992 became the pillar which conveyed a new meaning to the path of our people, the fight for liberation of Karabakh and the struggle for defending rights. It was no more a liberation of only one city. It was the start of the liberation of lost and occupied homeland.
A big fight preceded Shushi’s liberation, during which thousands of Armenian freedom fighters gave their lives. Shushi was also the start of a big fight which was to ensure the security and sovereignty of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
Each feels pride on this day, the pride for the deed of the brave sons of our people, realizing that decades after the heroic battle in Sardarapat the people again stood up for victory. And the fight this time was for Shushi, which was written in the pages of glory of the history of victories.
The generations will not forget the brave fighters who liberated Shushi’s fortress, the death in their eyes and realizing one thing, they are liberating a priceless part of their homeland. May 9 of 1992 is a new page in the history of the Armenian people. The laurel of victory is in our hands: liberated Shushi is 20 years old.
