French socialist Francois Hollande has won a clear victory in the country's presidential election, BBC informs.
Mr Hollande - who polled just under 52% of votes in Sunday's run-off - spoke of his pride at becoming president.
Admitting defeat, centre-right incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy wished "good luck" to Mr Hollande. He is the first one-term president since 1981.
Mr Hollande is the first Socialist to win the French presidency since Francois Mitterrand in the 1980s. Francois Hollande, who has held no high posts over the 30 years of his activity as politician, neither a post of a minister, has promised to improve France’s social life and to solve the existing problems with France’s neighbours in the Eurozone.
